The Holistic Oak — Dr S D Knight, a holistic health practice based in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

What we collect
When you contact us through this website. Your name, email address, the subject and content of your message, and how you heard about the practice.
When you become a client. Contact details, health history, current symptoms and concerns, medicines and remedies you are taking, lifestyle information, and the observations, findings and recommendations arising from your consultations.
Health information is treated as special personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act. We only collect it with your consent, we only collect what is needed to help you, and we hold it in confidence.
Why we collect it
- To respond to your enquiry and arrange appointments
- To assess your health and provide appropriate care
- To keep an accurate clinical record across your consultations
- To send you information you have asked to receive
We do not use your information for any other purpose without asking you first.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing.
Your information may be handled by service providers who operate parts of our systems on our behalf — our website and email host, and our email newsletter provider if you have subscribed. They act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes.
We will only disclose your information to anyone else with your consent, or where the law requires it.
Newsletters and marketing
If you subscribe to our mailing list, we will use your email address to send you practice news and health information. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Subscribing is never a condition of receiving care.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to an appointment are kept for up to twelve months. Clinical records are kept for the period required of health records in South Africa, after which they are securely destroyed.
How we protect it
This website is served over an encrypted connection. Email is protected in transit where the receiving service supports it. Clinical records are kept secured and accessible only to the practitioner. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information you choose to send us by email.
Cookies and website statistics
This website uses cookies necessary for it to function, and may use analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individuals. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may not work correctly if you do.
Your rights
You may ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, delete information we no longer need to keep, stop sending you marketing, or withdraw a consent you previously gave. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, contact doctor@drsdknight.com. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
